Capital City Monuments is honored to be a part of each client’s memorial, and is humbled when clients offer their letters of commendation for future clients to review. I stand ready to be of service to you.
It is difficult to express our deep appreciation for your prompt and caring assistance to us. We had purchased a plot at Riverside Cemetery prior to leaving Pierre to relocate to Ohio. Recently we decided that we should purchase a monument for our plot. Upon reaching you by phone, you assured us there would be no problem with ordering the monument from afar. The whole process was incredibly easy when you immediately sent us the information on the different monuments and pricing.
Additionally you provided pictures to us in order to decide how we wanted the monument inscribed. We had a final product in a very short length of time for which we were very grateful. Today you sent a picture and advised that the monument had been set at Riverside Cemetery on our plot and it looked beautiful.
We are truly indebted to you for the compassionate service and professional courtesy. Thank you Mr. Schumacher. May God continue to guide you in your business. ~ Vern and Jeannette Pfeiffer Mason, Ohio
How can any person find the words to express our deepest appreciation? When looking into a memorial for our dear son, we didn’t think we had a choice to customize a memorial. We tried to get quotes from other companies, being let down every time we had an idea for customization. We then turned to you, Randy, at Capital City Monuments. You was very sincere and empathetic from the get go. You didn’t rush us and checked in with us often to see what other kind of ideas we had for the memorial.
Randy, thank you for spending countless hours “playing with lego bricks” and designing not only one but many other ideas to memorialize our son. Thank you for making sure we got what we are comfortable with and for your patience through-out the whole process.
Those calls just to check in with us and see how we were doing, not even discussing the memorial, showed us that you truly care about your clients and not the money involved in the business. Thank you for all the creativity you put into making sure families have a way of showcasing their loved ones. Thank you for your understanding and patience through the whole process. I cannot wait to see the finished product and to be able to have something beautiful at my dear son’s resting place. (He sure deserves it) I never thought in a million years I’d have to do the process of designing a memorial for my child, and although that is what the universe had in store, you did a wonderful job through-out the whole process. Thank you Randy!! ~ Winston & Courtney Mike
We started working with Randy after my father passed away and was buried in southern North Dakota. From day one, we knew that Randy could both empathize with our situation and walk us through the details that go along with selecting a memorial – something neither of us had ever had to do. We knew that we wanted a shared memorial to include both parents’ names and we wanted to include a scene on the memorial, but we had very limited ideas until Randy walked us step by step through the process by asking about my parents’ lives. The scene that Randy ending up putting together with the information that we provided was amazing. Almost a year after first seeing it, we wouldn’t change a single detail.
From the questions that Randy had asked, he knew that my father was a veteran. With this information, he walked us through the process to request a bronze veteran’s memorial plaque from the Veterans Administration, something that we hadn’t even considered when we walked in the door. Randy patiently walked us through the process to select lettering styles, granite types, and monument dimensions and styles. He gave us the time that we needed to digest and discuss the information and options that were available to us, and after three or four visits, we walked out of his store with an order placed for a memorial that neither of us would have imagined when we first met with Randy, yet at a price that was well within our original budget.
Randy’s dedication to service did not stop with the sale. We had started the process late in the summer so the ground was frozen by the time the monument stone arrived in Pierre. Knowing that we would have to wait until spring to place it at the cemetery, Randy invited us down to his shop to see it – complete with the veterans bronze that he had received and installed on the back of the memorial. His invitation to view the memorial might sound like a small gesture, but it meant a lot to us at the time and we made plans during the visit to accompany him to the cemetery to set the monument the next spring. The COVID-19 pandemic threw us a curveball that spring, and we were unable to go with Randy to set the memorial, but he delivered and installed the it at the cemetery in North Dakota soon after the snow was gone and made sure to send us pictures of the memorial in place.
From start to finish, Randy provided a level of customer service that we rarely encounter anymore, and we couldn’t be happier with the end result. If you are looking for a memorial for yourself or a loved one, we recommend that you start by scheduling an appointment with Randy. Once you do, we doubt that you’ll even consider going anywhere else.

If you are looking for a memorial to honor your loved one, I would highly recommend Randy Schumacher, with Capital City Monuments in Pierre, SD. When my sisters and I went to him to get a memorial for my dear Mom, it was a very difficult time. Randy was very compassionate and personable. Randy suggested meeting with my family after hours to accommodate two of my sisters that work. We didn’t have any idea what we should have on Mom’s stone. He asked want her hobbies were and what she enjoyed. Randy took the time to design just what everyone wanted. After review and suggestions from the grandchildren, he redesigned everything to take into consideration what they also wanted.
When the memorial was set, Randy went to the cemetery and checked to make sure it was properly set and took pictures which he sent to me since I do not live in Pierre.

Thank you, Capital City Monuments, for your excellent customer service towards me and my husband. Thank you for working diligently with us while we chose the markings on our stone. You are appreciated! ~ Bonnie & Ray Maize

We wish to thank Michelle McNeely for all the assistance she gave us in obtaining professional people to repair the graves of our Granparents, Faith K (Dixon) and John W Ryan. Their graves were originally placed in 1950-1960 and were granite ledgers. These had settled to ground level and the plot markers had settled below grand level. We were put in contact with Randy Schumacher at Capital City Monuments in Pierre, SD. Their work was extremely professional, reasonably priced and very well done…. We certainly would encourage others to utilize their services. ~ The 10 Grandchildren of Faith K and John W Ryan (provided by Nikkie Eikamp)
